Focused support for the final primary year

Research shows that children can be especially vulnerable at this time, but the Year 6 programme gives them time to think about those mixed emotions and prepare for change in a positive, realistic way.

Children explore how they manage worries, where they can find support and what helps them build confidence and resilience. The sessions remind them that uncertainty is normal and that they already have strengths and strategies they can carry into their next school.

The programme consists of eight sessions and can be delivered as part of the wider Heads Up Kids curriculum or as a standalone transition programme. Teacher training supports staff to facilitate sensitive conversations and respond to the particular needs of their class.
